The Ultimate Uncertain Run
Ever heard of The Ultimate Wine Run? Neither had we, but being big fans of the vino, we decided to sign ourselves up.
I’m not so sure that I would jump on board to say we would definitely sign up for this 5k again, but I wouldn’t completely rule it out as being a wasted race. I mean, we did get several glasses of wine out of the deal.
We had great scenery, a great location, and great hosts for this event – thank you Burch Farms! As for The Ultimate Wine Run organization? They were definitely lacking some key aspects in order to put on a completely successful and hitch-free event, unfortunately.
Due to a “breach of contract” with the original location, The Ultimate Wine Run was banned and was forced to find a new location, about less than a month or so away from the original planned date. The emails received were confusing, (and filled with spelling errors!) and we found out by the original host company that the event was cancelled, not by the actual Wine Run organization arranging the event.
Needless to say, this company was blasted on Facebook and many participants that had signed up were requesting refunds for the event. But thankfully, a new location was established and Burch Farms opened up their vineyards for the 5k.
In the end, we got our wine, we got our medals, and we got our exercise in for the day. So, I would say a good time was had by all.
There were some lessons to be learned here:
1. Always do your research on a new race coming to your town, if you are not already familiar with it.
2. Don’t throw the towel in on an event until you know for sure there is no hope of it actually occurring.
3. Just because you think an event is going to be a bad time, due to a lack of communication and organization, doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be a bad time.
4. You can turn any situation into a great experience with some positivity and some good friends…and wine.
Cheers!
